GET THROUGH THE HOLIDAY SEASON
WITHOUT MAKING THESE COMMON SKINCARE MISTAKES
There’s so much skincare advice it can be utterly confusing as to what to do and what to avoid. Life then gets in the way, particularly during the Holiday Season. Busy schedules, late nights and, of course, a few drinks and the skincare rules simply go out the window.
Avoid these 4 common skincare mistakes and it will help you enjoy the fun Holiday Season whilst caring for your skin.
1. NOT CLEANSING CORRECTLY
If you don’t remove your cleanser correctly, cleansing particles sit deep in your skin which can lead to congestion, breakouts and a pH imbalance. So please make sure you clean off your cleanser particularly in the evening. This is when a second cleanse will cleanse the skin deeper. You may need to choose a creamy milk-based non-foaming cleanser such as Control Corrective Sensitive Cleansing Milk. This non-foaming cleanser contains hydrating ingredients to add extra moisture to your skin and is better than a foaming cleanser which can strip your skin of natural humectants and oils. Gently massage the cleanser thoroughly into your skin using circular motions over your face, neck and décolleté, then sweep it away with tepid water.
2. NOT USING A TONER
This is one of the most important elements for deep cleansing and balancing the delicate skin PH. Toning re-balances, refreshes and completes the cleansing step. Depending on your skin type and condition we offer two alcohol free toners which will effectively re-balance your skin whilst removing any tiny particles left behind following cleansing.
3. NOT REMOVING MAKEUP AT BEDTIME
This is probably something we have all been guilty of. We know what it’s like after a late night and all you want to do is crawl into bed and go to sleep. But when you understand the damage sleeping in your makeup can cause, you might think twice. The makeup we wear during the day attracts free radicals. These free radicals break down the collagen production in our skin and essentially speed up the aging process and our skin becomes dull and dehydrated. Our skin works while we sleep. It renews and repairs our skin cells to produce healthy ones. If you wear makeup to bed, it makes it very difficult for those cells to renew and repair.
4. NOT DRINKING ENOUGH WATER
This is another thing we all know we should be doing particularly in the Holiday Season. Our body is mostly made up of water (about 70%) and, regardless of the time of year, requires hydration. Water maintains moisture in the body, is perfect for keeping your skin hydrated and of course helps reduce those “morning after” effects. Aim for six to eight glasses of water a day and match a glass of water with every alcoholic drink at parties.
Finally darlings, it goes almost without saying that regular professional facials tailored to your individual needs will compliment your daily home care regime to help maintain the tone and appearance of the skin. This is particularly important at this time of the year when the combination of cold weather and the party spirit combine to challenge your skin at a time when you want to look and feel fabulous!
I hope you have a fabulous Festive Season!
Here are my Top 10 Skincare Tips for glowing skin to help you Look and Feel Fabulous all year round!
As another season unfolds there are changes that occur in your skin caused by the weather. The symptoms of “Autumn Skin” becomes apparent as your skin fails to retain adequate moisture because of the air becoming drier and cooler. This is the reason why during Autumn, the skin can tend to be dry, dull and pale. It is also the time when chronic skin conditions make their appearance including sun spots, flaking and irritation. The good news is however, you can maintain the integrity of your skin provided you follow the right treatments and make the necessary adjustments to your skin care routine
1. Cleanse your skin:
You may need to choose a creamy milk-based non-foaming cleanser
such as Control Corrective Sensitive Cleansing Milk. Whilst a foaming cleanser can strip your skin of natural humectants and oils, this non-foaming cleanser contains hydrating ingredients to add extra moisture to your skin. It will also help if you cleanse your face once daily at night time. As tempting as it is to scrub your face during the morning shower, all you did was sleep so you really don’t need to. You will keep your skin hydrated from the night cream you applied before you went to bed.
2. Exfoliate your skin:
At the end of summer your skin can look dry and dull from a build-up of dead skin cells. To help remove them, use a gentle exfoliator. The smaller the granules the better, especially if you have sensitive skin. Control Corrective Cucumber Bead Cleanser contains tiny circular jojoba beads which removes dirt, oil and dead skin cells but is gentle enough for all skin types.
3. Tone your skin:
There is a greater need for hydration through this dry and somewhat cooler season and the use of toner should never be overlooked. Depending on your skin type and condition we offer two alcohol-free toners which will effectively hydrate your skin.
4. Use of Serum:
Did you know serums penetrate past the epidermis in a way a moisturizer alone can’t? This means a hydrating serum applied before your moisturizer will add an extra hit of moisture. We have several types of serums to help with your specific skin type and condition.
5. Night time moisturizer:
During summer, a rich moisturizer can clog pores. However during this season a treatment cream will ensure all the hydration you apply to your face stays locked in overnight. Control Corrective Anti-wrinkle Face and Neck Cream is an advanced peptide-based treatment cream that helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and pigmentation leaving skin super hydrated and smooth.
6. Protect your skin:
Even if the sun isn’t shining, you still need sun protection every single morning rain or shine! We have a variety of sunscreens to offer depending on your skin type and condition.
7. Treat your skin:
There are additional treatments such as these which you can use at home during this time of year. A hydrating mask 2-3 times a week such as Control Corrective Balancing Thermogel Mask will help restore and balance dry, dehydrated or flaky skin. Control Corrective Ultra Peptide Cream Mask combines the magic of retinol and lactic acid to plump and retexturize while a powerful trio of collagen-stimulating peptides work to infuse deep, healing nourishment and profound hydration.
8. Prime your skin:
Did you experience the slip n’ slide feeling you had during the humid period of summer as your makeup refused to stay put? Whilst your foundation should co-operate better now, applying a primer first, will not only ensure your makeup stays in place throughout the day, it is another moisture-adding layer to your skin. Depending on your skin type and tone, we offer BB Creams and Primers to help hydrate your skin and enhance your makeup.
9. Professional Treatments:
This is the best time of year to repair sun damaged skin through controlled, non-invasive professional treatments such as Dermafile, Chemical Peels and Dermatude Dual Modality Therapy. Depending on your skin type and condition, these treatments can improve fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, pigmentation, texture and stimulate collagen growth.
10. Improve your skin from within:
Always remember you are what you eat. Choose food that help moisturize your skin. Drink water, water and more water. Water hydrates the skin, flushes out toxins and adds elasticity making it appear soft and smooth. Eat foods rich in Vitamin A and C such as dark leafy greens, fish and fruits. Limit your alcohol and caffeine intake; both can dehydrate you and your skin will show it! It goes without saying smoking is very bad for your skin (and the rest of you!)
Above all when in doubt please don’t hesitate to contact me. I will be delighted to guide you through each and every season!
Enjoy the Autumn!

What is a facial?
Are you interested in receiving a regular facial treatment from me but not sure what that consists of? To help clarify the process I have outlined each step for you. Once you have experienced a regular facial treatment it may be appropriate for you to receive an advanced facial treatment. We can discuss this along with any other service you may be interested in during your visit.
Let’s talk about your skin…..
Lots and lots of questions about you and your skin! This will help my selection of skincare products and electronic devices which will compliment your individualized facial treatment. It will also ensure I have addressed all your concerns.
Setting the scene…..
One of the most relaxing elements of my facial treatments is when I carefully wrap a warm, moist towel, infused with aromatherapy oils around your face for several minutes. This practice has been integrated into facial treatments and is an alternative to steam. The combination of heat and moisture along with the calming properties of aromatherapy, provides an almost decadent sense of relaxation whilst loosening dead skin cells and dirt from the skin surface.
I use a mild cleanser to remove dirt, oil and makeup. During this step I will assess your skin further by looking and feeling.
I use a slightly stronger cleanser during this step to start the process of lifting dead skin cells and softening pores. If appropriate I will use an exfoliating product.
The skin is now prepared for my Ultrasonic Spatula device which is activated by ultrasonic sound waves (28,000 per second). You will feel a very slight vibration. The device works best when the skin is moist to allow dead skin cells to be effortlessly lifted off the skin allowing new cells to be hydrated.
Each step up to this point has been designed to prepare the skin for extractions, which should not and will not be painful or forced!
LED Light Therapy
During this step I will apply appropriate eye protection, then adjust and position my LED device over your face. This breakthrough technology is non-invasive and gentle but very effective. LED therapy uses specific color wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin at varying lengths. It triggers the body to convert light energy into cell energy without thermal heat. It is a natural biochemical reaction based on research by NASA and is used for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, acne, rosacea, and some forms of pigmentation.
Mask and multifunction device
Everyone need hydration! I apply a calming and hydrating mask which is ideal for all skin types and conditions and is an excellent base for my custom blended treatment. Having applied the mask I will use my multi-function device which uses five major functions together in one unit to achieve a multi-directional treatment suitable for face, neck and around the eyes. I end with a facial and scalp hand massage.
Serum Moisturizer SPF
Unfortunately the facial treatment has come to an end and you will be given time to re-enter normality for the rest of your day!
These steps provide an overview of a regular facial treatment. However, depending on your skin type and concerns the steps may require adjustment or omission. In some cases additional steps may be included.
It is essential for me to provide a client focused treatment. If you would like to ask questions or simply have peace and quiet I will provide the appropriate ambiance. This is your time and I am here for you.
When you leave my treatment room you will not only have a healthy glow you will Look and Feel Fabulous!
